Announcement of new job at Walmart as a full stack engineer
I recently accepted a software engineer position at Walmart, which is a life-changing opportunity for me. This new role involves working with open source technologies I love, like React and React Native, but also expanding into backend development. I’ve been focused on learning Walmart’s systems and processes, which is why I haven’t uploaded videos for a couple of months.
If you want, I can make a future video sharing my interview experience or a day-in-the-life at Walmart. I’m excited to grow my career there and share more about it with you.
Transitioning from frontend to backend development
My new position is more full stack, so I’m transitioning from primarily frontend work to also handling backend tasks. I’ll be learning backend technologies like Java and Spring Boot, plus databases. I’m curious if you’d be interested in tutorials or content about backend development, especially with these tools.
This shift means I’ll be expanding my skills beyond React Native and frontend frameworks, which I think will help me create more complete applications and share more diverse knowledge with the community.
Progress update on the React with TypeScript course
I’ve been working hard on the React with TypeScript course during my weekends. We’re about 55% done, currently finishing the advanced React and styling sections. The course will cover modern UI libraries, Tailwind CSS, and best practices.
The final project will be a real-world app that integrates payments, which is a critical and challenging feature to implement correctly. The goal is to position you as a high-level frontend engineer with practical skills for building scalable, maintainable apps.
Plans to update the React Native course with latest Expo SDK
After finishing the React with TypeScript course, I plan to return to the React Native course to update some older lessons. For example, Expo SDK 49 introduced changes that affect the first few lessons like the introduction.
Keeping the course up to date is important so you get the latest tools and best practices. I want to make sure the React Native course stays relevant and useful for new learners.
Upcoming features for Code with Beto platform (certificates, progress saving)
I’m also working on new features for the Code with Beto platform. One popular request is adding certificates upon course completion, which you can add to your resume. Another feature in progress is saving your course progress in a database instead of just locally.
These improvements will make learning smoother and more rewarding for everyone using the platform.
Future content ideas including backend tutorials with Java and Spring Boot
With my new backend experience, I want to create tutorials on backend development topics. This could include Java, Spring Boot, databases, and related backend concepts.
I also want to share more about software engineering fundamentals that often get overlooked, like Git best practices, testing, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation. These are essential skills for working in big companies and teams.
Reflections on learning essential software engineering skills
Working at Walmart has shown me how important it is to master basics that many assume you already know. Things like Git workflows, testing your code, and automating deployments are critical for team projects and large codebases.
I plan to create courses that cover these foundational skills to help developers grow beyond just coding features.
Current promotion for the React Native course
If you haven’t enrolled yet, there’s a promotion for the React Native course with two years of access at half price ($59). After the course finishes, the price will increase to about $99 per year.
This is a great opportunity to get lifetime access to the course content and updates while the promotion lasts.
